About

Dr Talwar has made many pioneering contributions in the field of cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology. He was the first to implant and introduce the Implantable Cardioverter and Defibrillator (ICD) therapy in India and South Asia region that was recorded in the LIMCA Book of World Records (1997). He is also the first to introduce CRT (Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy) in India in 2000. With over 40 years of clinical experience in cardiology, Dr Talwar has expertise and in-depth knowledge of diagnosis, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation for varied cardiac ailments.

He has contributed more than 200 articles and 270 abstracts in national and international journals of repute. He has also contributed chapters in 15 national and international books. In 2006, Dr Talwar was honoured with Padma Bhushan, the country's third highest civilian award by the Government of India for his contributions in the field of Medicine.

Dr Talwar is a graduate of Government Medical College, Patiala and did his MD (Medicine) and DM (Cardiology) from PGIMER Chandigarh. After working as a consultant in PGIMER for about three years, he joined the faculty of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He rose to become professor (1992) and head of cardiology in AIIMS. In April 2004, he came back to PGIMER as director of the institute and professor and head of its cardiology department.
