Dr. Savitri Shrivastava brings forth over 55 years of experience to her current role as Director Paediatric cardiology at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi. She was the first to introduce non-coronary interventions at AllMS and conducted the nation's first balloon mitral valvotomy. The establishment of a world-class Echocardiography section at AllMS is to her credit, and she is also the founder president of Indian Academy of Echocardiography established in 1995. The department of paediatric cardiology and congenital heart disease (CHD), a centre of repute both in India and abroad, was established by Dr. savitri shrivastava in 1995. She is also the founder president of the paediatric cardiac Society of india, she became the first woman and first Indian to receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual PICs (Pediatric Interventional cardiology Society) meeting held in Miami Florida in 2013. Dr Savitri Shrivastava was awarded the Glaxo Oration' award by the National Academy of Medical Sciences India in 2012. Her contributions to medical science were also recognized in form of a lifetime achievement award at the World Congress on clinical & Preventive Cardiology (WCCPC).
 
Dr. Savitri Shrivastava's main areas of interest have been in Paediatric and Congenital Heart Diseases, Echocardiography and Non Coronary Interventions. She has many firsts to her name:
    Establishment of the section of Echocardiography at AIIMS, New Delhi and brought it at par with the world class Echocardiography laboratories
    Formation of Indian Academy of Echocardiography as the Founder President of the Society in 1995.
    Initiation of non-coronary interventions at AIIMS
    The technique of Balloon Dilation of the Atrial Septum was described for the first time in the world by her in 1988.
    Establishment of the department of Paediatric cardiology and CHD at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in 1995, which is now well known in India and abroad
    Formulation of a Paediatric cardiology-training programme, approved by the National Medical Board.
