Dr.Rawat was born on 23rd September 1965. He did his medical graduation in 1987 from prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi followed by Master of Surgery from same institution. In 1995, he went to England for higher super specialist training, where he was extensively trained in world-class centres. He was subsequently appointed consultant and an honorary consultant at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, East Cheshire NHS Trust and Christie Hospital respectively. These are internationally recognized Centre's of Excellence. Christie Hospital is the largest cancer centre in Europe. Dr.Rawat has an impressive list of fellowships, which includes FRCS (Glasgow), FRCS (Edinburgh), FRCS (England) and FRCS (Intercollegiate).
After a very distinguished career in UK, Dr. Rawat returned to his country in 2012.
Dr. Rawat is now Chairman and Head, Department of Surgical Gastroenterology & Liver Transplant Department at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. This department is one of the largest and among the best in the country and major one internationally. He is also serving as Honorary Consultant Surgeon at Christie's NHS Foundation Hospital, Manchester, UK. For his distinguished work he was appointed Member, Court of Examiner, Royal College of Surgeon of England.
Dr.Rawat is pioneer in bringing up laparoscopic and robotic surgery for GI cancer in Ganga Ram hospital. He has performed the first robotic hepatico-jejunostomy in India and first low anterior resection in North India and among the first to perform robotic and laparoscopic Oesophagectomy with excellent results. He also developed Enhanced recovery programme for cancer Surgery. Since his return, he was awarded academic excellence award by Delhi Medical Association, felicitated for delivering keynote lecture by Indian Medical Association, UP. He was awarded by all three laparoscopic surgeryassociations in India, AMASI, SELSI and IAGES under the banner of association of surgeons of India for his pioneer work and for delivering lectures and Chairing the Conference. He was also conferred "Bundelkhand Gaurav Samman" by SushreeUma Bharti, for extraordinary contributions and devotion to the field of Medicine.
Dr.Rawat is passionate towards teaching. He is a trainer in laparoscopic surgery for Royal College of Surgeon of England and has trained surgeons all around the world. He was Surgical.

Dr. Rawat has been the Chairman, Moderator, Faculty, Convener and Coordinator in various National and International workshops, CMEs, Master classes and conferences. Dr. Rawat has been extensively involved in clinical research. He has supervised seminal research and applied research outcomes to clinical and surgical advancements including Enhanced recovery programme which has revolutionised GI cancer surgery. Given his work as one of the important thought leader in Medicine, he was invited to participate in Young Leaders Conclave-Vision 2020, where highly respected and influential speaker included Narendra Modi and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
There is a very strong philanthropic side to his towering personality. During his college days, Dr. Rawat was deeply involved in community service and leadership. He was President of Junior Doctor Association and was President of Rotaract Club in Delhi where he Institutionalised voluntary service to socially and economically disadvantaged sections of society.
Dr. Rawat has held honorary positions in various professional bodies including Honorary Editor for the Indian edition of "Diseases of the Colon and Rectum". This is the official Journal of American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and is world's leading publication, ranking among the top of all peer-reviewed surgery journals. Dr.Rawat is an active member and fellow of various professional organisations including the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, British Medical Association, British Transplant Society, Royal College of Surgeons of England, Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society, Indian Medical association, Association of Surgeons of India among others.
